What You Need To Know About IRONMAN Hitting Hobart

We hope you’ve had your Nutri Grain Tassie- because something big is coming our way!

The world-class triathlon event, IRONMAN 70.3, is happening in Hobart this coming Sunday, the 5th February!!! And even if you aren’t competing in the event, there is a fair chance it will affect your day – with plenty of changes and closures affecting a lot of the roads in and around the city- especially those in the vicinity of Lutana, Derwent Park, and Goodwood.

So, whether you’re an athlete, a spectator, or just a commuter trying to get from A to B on the  day, preparation will be key. Though we love a good fun run here at 4one4 Property Co, no one in our offices is brave enough to tackle the course but we’re sure everyone’s pumped up to witness this highly anticipated event hit our beautiful state of Tasmania for the first time ever! How cool is it to host such a legendary affair that will have people from all around the globe eye on our stunning city!

The IRONMAN triathlon is focused on the commitment, bravery, and tenacity shown by competing athletes to prove their mantra “Anything is Possible”. The equally spectacular and challenging course will be completed by athletes in and around Hobart while they take in the stunning scenery of the city.

Regional Director for the IRONMAN Group Oceania Carl Smith shared how they exerted extra efforts for the preparation leading up to the event. “Our team has worked hard to create an event that will provide an exceptional racing experience while also showing off the region to more than 1,200 athletes who will be on the start line,” he said.

“IRONMAN 70.3 Tasmania will be a race experience to remember for athletes, their friends and families, and the local community.”

The main program will start with a 1.9km swim course in the Derwent River with its starting point at the back of Australia’s largest floating pontoon, Brooke St Pier. Participants will then embark on a 90km ride, which by the way, has the most vertical gain among all Ironman 70.3 bike courses in Oceania. The action continues with the 21.1 km run that will follow the intercity cycleway via the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens before arriving at Princes Wharf No. 1, where the IRONMAN 70.3 finish line’s famed red carpet is located.

There will be plenty of opportunity for spectators to come close to the action and experience what IRONMAN 70.3 racing is all about because it will not only be the southernmost IRONMAN 70.3 event in the globe but will also include the first indoor transition in the area at Princes Wharf No. 1.

Since it will be held in Tassie, not only could it serve as an opportunity to showcase its beauty to the world but also promote the state’s potential to host other major and significant sporting events moving forward.

We’re certain that a lot of people are excited to witness firsthand how the event will conclude this coming weekend. So, just in case you’re wondering, the average time for a triathlete to finish an IRONMAN triathlon is 13–13.5 hours, spending about 1:20 hours in the water, 6:30 hours on the bike, and 5:00 hours on the run. But of course, this still depends on every athlete’s performance, so a lot of surprises may happen during race day.

Since the road will be playing a major role on the day of the event, certain traffic conditions will be changed. In particular, the cycling course, which travels north through Lutana, Derwent Park, and Goodwood, will be affected by a variety of road closures and altered traffic patterns on race day. At the end of the day, 30 Age Group qualifying spots and 25 additional women qualifying spots are available for the 2023 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships, which will be held in Lahti, Finland, on 26-27 August.

Aside from the event proper, an IRONKIDS event will also be held the day before the IRONMAN 73.0 Tasmania. This allows the next generation of triathlon stars to be a part of the action-packed event. A special run along the Hobart waterfront will be featured and technically, a portion of the course that the athletes will take for the IRONMAN event will also be the route for this. The race will be divided into two categories: a 1 km run for kids aged 7 to 10 and a 1.5 km run for kids aged 11 to 13.

The race starts at 9 am and all participants will get an IRONKIDS Tasmania t-shirt and a finisher medal. All runners will also get the full IRONMAN 70.3 Tasmania finish experience making their way down the famous red carpet, crossing under the finish arch on the Princes Wharf No. 1 forecourt.

Our team at 4one4 Property Co. is pumped up to witness this epic race experience this coming weekend!!! Having the guts to try joining such an active-based event is already a pride and reaching the finish line is definitely another thing, so we are sending our massive good luck and congratulations to all the brave locals and athletes who will surely ace the game!!!
