Preparing your house for Spring (inside)

Here are a few tips for getting the inside of your home ready in preparation for selling in Spring.

  • Firstly, it’s a great idea to minimise the amount of “stuff” you have. I’m sure it’s all very good and very useful but when it comes to presenting your home, the buyers need to see more of your home than your stuff!! Grab some boxes and go through each room and pack away items that you can do without for a short time. Store the boxes neatly in your garage, rumpus room or if these aren’t available perhaps you might be able to use family or friends to help you out. Remember to mark what is in each box for future reference.
  • Just like the outside of your home you might need to touch up the paint in a few spots too. This will also give your home that fresh paint smell which always seems to go down well with buyers.
  • Give your windows and window furnishings a good clean and if you think it might be necessary give the curtains a wash.
  • Take a good look in your bathroom and other wet areas. Make sure these areas get a good clean and reseal any areas with silicon that need attention.
  • Give all of your floor coverings, light fittings, ceilings and walls a good vacuum, clean and dust.
  • Last but not least, if you have a “fury” member of the family! Make sure he or she gets a regular bath and remember kitty litter trays need changing constantly as sometimes a tray that hasn’t been changed in a while is enough to send a buyer straight out the door.

Remember if you follow these steps, you should get plenty of interest in your property, attract good offers and be on the market for a short period of time.
