It may be housed at a Brand New location, but the age-old excitement and entertainment await Tasmanians as this year’s Royal Hobart Show takes over the Hobart Regatta Grounds on 20-22 October.
From the beauty of country heritage and agriculture to the wonders of the city, the Royal Hobart Show celebrates all things Aussie! Get ready to immerse yourself and your family in one of the biggest and longest-running annual events in our beautiful state of Tasmania. Experience unique hands-on learning and some free entertainment, suitable for all members of the family–both young & old.
The Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania (RAST) has announced that with its traditional home at the Glenorchy Showground (its home location for the past 118 years might we add) under redevelopment, the Show is moving to the city and will be held at the Regatta Grounds for the next three years.
So with a new location–what does that mean for showgoers? You guessed it – A new site means a new setup!
Since the Regatta Grounds is not suitable for some of the activities which are essential to keeping the tradition alive, like housing of the livestock and animal judging – some changes to this year’s show include running the event in designated sections, across alternate dates, and even across some more locations–including the Hobart City Hall, the Coal Valley Equestrian Centre, and even at the Campbell Town Showgrounds.

Rest assured that all traditional Show favourites like woodchopping and the animal nursery are present across the three-day program. Other extensive entertainment programs at the Regatta Grounds include a dinosaur petting zoo, a new Petes Parade, and water-powered fun from Gold Coast-based Jetpack Entertainment.
Some of the entertainers attending (which are worth looking forward to) are Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo, Flyboard Superheroes & Jet Pack Stunt Show, Mr Shaggles, Noah’s Thoroughbred Racing Pigs, Pandora Kelpies, Brian Fish’s Bullock Team, Crazy Daisy the Clown, Reptile Rescue, Night Shift, and a lot more!

Looking back, the first-ever Show in 1822 was held on the lawns of Parliament House in Salamanca Place, Hobart. In a way, this year’s Show is an exciting and memorable one for the hosts as the Royal Hobart Show is returning to the City of Hobart while the supposed ultra-modern Showground is on its way to redesigning.
As reflected in the Show Mag 2022, the Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania hopes that this year’s Show fosters community pride in the industry sector of agriculture.

Since its first Show in 1822, The Royal Hobart Show has been consistent in uniting the city and country in Tasmania.
